Make Room for More Blooms: How to Save Money on Wedding Flowers

Weddings can be an expensive affair. ‘Stressful’ is the word that comes to mind when one thinks of wedding budget planning.

Depending on the number of guests attending, there are a myriad of things that can make or break your budget. And it only makes sense that you want to fulfil all the items on your list to bring your dream wedding to life. One of the most significant items on this list would be the wedding flowers.

When it comes to wedding flowers, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get your hands on gorgeous blooms when working on a small budget – you just have to know how to play it! It can only go both ways: either they eat into the budget you have set aside for other miscellaneous things, or they leave space for more!

Believe it or not – with a few cost-cutting ideas up your sleeve, it’s possible to have a floral extravaganza without breaking into the honeymoon funds.

1. Choose In-Season Flowers

A surefire way to keep within your floral budget is to opt for in-season flowers.  When the flowers you want aren’t in season at the time of your wedding, your florist must source for those blooms from somewhere else — potentially overseas. Seasonal flowers are more readily available, and hence, they tend to cost less. Not only will you save some bucks for not having to pay for the costs of importing them, but local, in-season flowers will also guarantee you the freshest blooms. Not sure what’s in season? Discuss with your florist and allow them to point you towards some dreamy seasonal blooms.

2. Opt for Dried Flowers

Another idea that would entail less planning, labour and coordinating are dried flowers. If dried flowers could work with your style, it also means lower costs for you! The only requirement for dried flowers would be that they need to be placed in a cool space. They do not require water. After the big day has ended, dried wedding flowers can also double up as a keepsake for the newlywed.

Psst, you can even take it a step further by repurposing these flowers from your solemnisation.

3. Go Big

No, we aren’t talking about spending big – we’re talking about opting for bigger blooms. Bigger blooms take up more space, which means that you will need lesser flowers to create a lush centrepiece. So even if you gravitate towards flowers that may not be the cheapest in the market, you will only need a few to make a statement.

Consider lilies, roses or carnations. The hydrangea is also another voluminous bloom that might make you tick. Not to mention, it has a rustic charm that’s perfect for vintage-themed weddings.

Go big and make a grand statement!

4. Stick to a Few Variations

Instead of choosing grand and elaborated arrangements as wedding table centrepieces, stick to a few simple variations.

A single large flower in a bud vase or glass bottle can speak volumes too. Keep the flower variations to three or less – you’ll thank us for this tip later.
